Which ATS does your UK employer actually use?

A job-seeker’s field guide to the 12 applicant tracking systems you may meet in the UK: how to identify the provider, what the URL can tell you, and what remains private.

The Short Answer· Updated July 2026

A clean CV can behave differently across private ATS configurations. Use a simple layout, follow the advert, and make your evidence easy for a person to assess.

The careers-page URL can often identify the application provider: myworkdayjobs.com indicates Workday, boards.greenhouse.io indicates Greenhouse, and apply.workable.com indicates Workable. That identifies the vendor, not the employer's private parsing, scoring, or review configuration.

Why this guide exists

Search "best applicant tracking system UK" today and you’ll find ten buyer’s guides written for HR directors deciding which software to purchase. None of them are for you, the job seeker. They tell you Workable costs £149 a month and Greenhouse needs a sales call. Useful if you’re hiring. Useless if you’re trying to get hired.

This page is the opposite. It helps you identify the provider from observable URL signals, then separates what you can verify from what vendors and employers keep private. No public checker can reproduce every employer’s parsing, scoring, or review configuration.

I built ApplyArc after applying to a hundred-plus UK roles myself and watching similar applications get very different responses. A platform can shape the form, but it does not explain every hiring decision. The advert and the employer’s instructions remain the source of truth.

URL signals for 12 application platforms

Use Ctrl+F to find a provider. These signals identify software, not a hidden score or a guaranteed route through it.

1. Workday

URL signal: myworkdayjobs.com or workday.com

What it tells you: The employer is using Workday to collect the application. Its configured fields and screening rules are not public.

Safe move: Follow the listed file requirements, use clear section headings, and complete every required field rather than assuming the uploaded CV supplies it.

2. SAP SuccessFactors

URL signal: career.successfactors.com

What it tells you: The application uses SuccessFactors. The employer decides which profile fields, questions, and filters are active.

Safe move: Complete the structured skills and experience fields accurately, then check that the uploaded document remains readable in the preview.

3. Workable

URL signal: apply.workable.com

What it tells you: The application is hosted by Workable. The job-specific form is visible, but the employer's review workflow is not.

Safe move: Answer custom questions directly and keep the CV aligned with the role without copying requirements you cannot evidence.

4. Greenhouse

URL signal: boards.greenhouse.io

What it tells you: Greenhouse is collecting the application and any custom questions shown on the form.

Safe move: Write fresh answers to the questions asked and verify every imported field before submitting.

5. Teamtailor

URL signal: teamtailor.com

What it tells you: Teamtailor hosts the careers flow. A branded page does not reveal how the employer reviews applications.

Safe move: Use the form's own instructions as the source of truth and make supporting answers specific to the vacancy.

6. Oleeo

URL signal: oleeo.com

What it tells you: Oleeo is providing the application system. Assessment criteria come from the employer and vacancy.

Safe move: For criteria-based applications, make each required example easy for a human assessor to find and verify.

7. Tribepad

URL signal: tribepad.com

What it tells you: Tribepad is hosting the flow. Any screening questions or assessments are visible in that specific application.

Safe move: Treat each required question as part of the application and answer it accurately. Do not rely on the CV alone.

8. iCIMS

URL signal: icims.com

What it tells you: iCIMS is collecting the application. The employer controls its fields and workflow.

Safe move: Use conventional headings such as Work Experience, Education, and Skills, then check every parsed field for errors.

9. Pinpoint

URL signal: pinpointhq.com or a branded careers domain

What it tells you: Pinpoint may appear behind a branded careers page. The page source can still reveal the provider.

Safe move: Follow the vacancy's requested format and write concise supporting answers grounded in your own evidence.

10. SmartRecruiters

URL signal: smartrecruiters.com

What it tells you: SmartRecruiters hosts the application. Required eligibility questions are part of the employer's configured flow.

Safe move: Answer eligibility and screening questions carefully, and never claim a status or qualification you do not hold.

11. Ashby

URL signal: jobs.ashbyhq.com

What it tells you: Ashby hosts the job page and application. The URL does not reveal the employer's decision process.

Safe move: Use the role's stated requirements and custom questions, not assumptions about how an Ashby customer hires.

12. BambooHR

URL signal: bamboohr.com/careers

What it tells you: BambooHR is collecting the application. The URL alone says nothing about who reviews it or how long they spend.

Safe move: Write for a human reader, keep the structure clear, and verify that every form field is correct.

How to identify an ATS from the careers URL

The application URL gives it away. Click “Apply” on the company’s job page and look at the address bar:

  • myworkdayjobs.com or workday.com → Workday
  • boards.greenhouse.io or boards-api.greenhouse.io → Greenhouse
  • jobs.lever.co → Lever
  • apply.workable.com → Workable
  • career.successfactors.com or career.sap.com → SAP SuccessFactors
  • icims.com in the URL → iCIMS
  • smartrecruiters.com → SmartRecruiters
  • teamtailor.com → Teamtailor
  • jobs.ashbyhq.com → Ashby
  • tribepad.com in the path → Tribepad
  • oleeo.com → Oleeo

If the company has a custom domain on its careers page (e.g. careers.example.co.uk), right-click the application page, view source, and search the HTML for any of these strings. A script, form action, or stylesheet may still reference the original ATS domain.

UK public sector hiring is different

NHS Jobs, Civil Service Jobs, Network Rail and many local councils use structured application forms. The platform collects and routes your evidence; shortlisting panels assess it against the person specification or advertised Success Profiles criteria. Follow the word limit shown for each answer.

Do not spend all your effort polishing the CV while treating the supporting statement or behaviour answers as an afterthought. Those answers are often the evidence the panel is asked to mark.

Check your CV against a UK job advert

ApplyArc's free ATS CV checker reviews pasted text for standard sections, contact details, bullet structure, and missing role keywords. It does not inspect the original file or reproduce an employer's private ATS. No credit card.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out which ATS a UK company uses before applying?

Start with the careers-page URL. Workday URLs often contain 'myworkdayjobs.com', Greenhouse uses 'boards.greenhouse.io', Lever uses 'jobs.lever.co', and Workable uses 'apply.workable.com'. If the employer uses a custom domain, view the application page source and search for the provider name. This can identify the vendor, but it does not expose the employer's private scoring or review configuration.

Do UK ATS systems still reject CVs that contain images or tables?

Parsing depends on the employer's platform, configuration, and the file itself. Images, text boxes, headers, footers, and multi-column reading order can add avoidable ambiguity. If the advert does not request a particular layout, a clean single-column CV with conventional headings is the safest baseline. Always follow the employer's stated file requirements.

Which ATS does the NHS use in the UK?

Many NHS applications are reviewed against the Person Specification's essential and desirable criteria. Some Trusts use NHS Jobs while others use third-party recruitment systems. The platform collects and routes the application; a shortlisting panel assesses the evidence. Match each criterion clearly and follow any stated word limits.

Do UK Civil Service applications go through an ATS?

Civil Service Jobs manages applications, but the platform does not award your Success Profiles score. Human assessors mark evidence against the advertised Behaviours, Strengths, Experience and Technical criteria. Follow the word limits and evidence requirements in the advert rather than relying on generic CV optimisation.

Is there a free way to check my CV against a UK ATS before applying?

Yes. ApplyArc's free ATS CV checker reviews pasted CV text against an optional UK job advert. It shows missing role keywords and common section, contact-detail, and bullet-structure issues. It does not reproduce an employer's private ATS configuration.

Does using AI to write my CV trigger ATS filters?

We found no reliable public documentation that common ATS platforms automatically reject or downrank a CV because a text detector labels it AI-written. Focus on a parseable file, relevant evidence, and accurate claims. ApplyArc's rewrite guards flag repeatable language patterns and block clear scope or leadership fabrication, but they cannot prove authorship or predict an employer's ATS configuration.
